The Utah Transit Authority announced an official opening date for the new FrontRunner line that will connect Provo to Salt Lake City.

Beginning Dec, 10, the 45-mile rail line will be open for public use. The tracks are an extension of the Salt Lake City to Weber County line that opened in April 2008.

UTA officials are seeking input from the public throughout April while they make adjustments to the UTA bus system that will serve the new line. The primary focus during the public input period will be in Utah County, as the changes will affect those residents primarily.

Information will be gathered through five public houses being held throughout Utah County during April, along with online and phone surveys, focus groups and through the UTA website and social media channels.

After the public participation is completed, officials will develop several service plan scenarios for the bus system, and will then present them to the public for further input.

Construction on the Provo to Salt Lake City line is more than 90 percent complete, officials said. They expect the new line to be tested sometime this summer.

Once the line is completed, it will be making stops in Murray, South Jordan, Draper, Lehi, American Fork, Orem and Provo, and a future station in Vineyard.
