A 20-year-old man was in critical condition after he was struck by a vehicle Wednesday in the intersection of 3300 South and Wasatch Drive.

Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal said a woman driving a Mitsubishi Montero was stopped about 11:40 a.m. at a traffic light. When the light turned green, witnesses reported she began accelerating to make a left turn onto 3300 South. At that same time, the man began running west across the street and was struck by the vehicle, Hoyal said.

Hoyal said the SUV drove up and over the pedestrian. He was taken to University Hospital in critical condition.

Hoyal said are investigating the crash and will screen the case with the district attorney for any driver citations or charges. He estimated that process will take several weeks.
