A man was critically injured in a stabbing Monday at a Salt Lake City hotel.

The victim, 40, got into an argument with a man he was rooming with at the All Star Travel Inn, 754 W. North Temple, said Salt Lake City police Lt. Josh Scharman. Just before 5 p.m., the fight escalated, and the 61-year-old roommate stabbed the victim, Scharman said.

The victim was in critical condition when he has taken to a hospital, but his condition has improved and he is expected to survive, Scharman said.

The suspect remained in the motel room and was compliant with the police, Scharman said. Police have interviewed him and booked him into jail, Scharman said.

Police also are interviewing a third man who was in the room at the time, Scharman said.

Scharman did not know the subject of the dispute.
