An 18-year-old Murray resident Friday was charged with causing a fiery car crash that killed her cousin.

Laura Ruth Blocker was charged with one count of criminally negligent homicide, a class A misdemeanor, according to documents filed in 3rd District Court.

Authorities allege that Blocker was northbound on Wasatch Boulevard about 4:30 a.m. Nov. 18 when she lost control of her vehicle, causing it to roll and burst into flames, charging documents show. Blocker's cousin, Kellie McElroy, 19, a passenger in the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.

Blocker, who suffered minor injuries in the crash, allegedly told police she was driving about 100 mph when she lost control, charging documents show. The posted speed limit in the area is 50, police said.
