Orem police Sgt. Craig Martinez said the fire began behind the building about 12:30 a.m. when two employees were pumping a fuel additive.
A connection on a hose came loose and the additive landed on a motorized pump, Martinez said. The additive ignited and about 200 gallons of it burned, Martinez said, adding that the flames were about 35 feet high when crews arrived.
The fire started outside behind the business, but flames later began burning the building and a vehicle in the back lot. As crews responded, the flames engulfed the building and charred the attic.
Two employees were at the business at the time, but no one was injured.
Three Orem fire stations and one Provo engine responded to the fire.
