South Salt Lake police are asking for the public’s help locating a missing 79-year-old man who they have classified as endangered.
Police are trying to find James Edwin Chapman, a white male, who has been diagnosed with dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. He was last seen at his home in the 100 block of Wentworth Avenue (2205 South) in South Salt Lake about noon Tuesday.

Police said Chapman is about 6-foot-3, weighs about 180 pounds and has long white/gray hair pulled back in a ponytail along with a chest-length white beard. While authorities aren’t sure what he was last wearing, police said he typically wears khaki pants and a long-sleeve dress shirt.
He’s known to frequent the Salt Lake City Main Library, located at 400 S. 300 East, and often travels by bus or cab.
