Police say a teenage girl was kidnapped by her brothers and father less than a year after she was placed in the foster system, a move prompted by her family allegedly attacking her while she was pregnant to try to cause a miscarriage.
In charges filed Monday, officers wrote that the girl, 17 or 18, had recently run away from a group home and was waiting with her boyfriend at a bus stop near 3900 South and 900 East in Millcreek on March 8. Witnesses saw two men put the girl — screaming and resisting — into the backseat of the car. The girl later said the two men were her father, 42, and her brother, 20.

Her boyfriend fled, but another brother, 27, drove after him in a pickup, police wrote. The truck struck the boyfriend, who ended up sprawled on the hood, police wrote. He tried to run again, but one of the brothers chased him and punched him in the face, police wrote.
The girl told police she was removed from her home in May 2011 by the state Division of Child and Family Services because the family "had physically assaulted her in an attempt to cause her to miscarry while she was six months pregnant," police wrote.
The boyfriend told police her family is part of the Iraqi Mafia gang and that he feared for his life.
All three men were charged with second-degree felony kidnapping. The older brother was also charged with third-degree felony aggravated assault. The younger brother was charged with misdemeanor assault.
