A 34-year-old man was fatally injured Friday when a piece of machinery fell on him at a Salt Lake City manufacturing plant.

Inoke Langi was killed at about 1 p.m. at Cambelt International Corp. at 2820 W. Directors Row (1100 South), which manufactures conveyor belts, according to Salt Lake City Fire Department spokesman Scott Freitag.

Langi suffered crushing injuries to his torso while working on machinery used to mold rubber pieces together to create conveyor belts, Freitag said.

Officials said it was unknown why the machinery moved while Langi was underneath it.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration will be investigating the accident, Freitag said.
