A 6-year-old girl was taken to the hospital in critical condition after she darted into the path of an SUV in the Price area on Tuesday, the Utah Highway Patrol reported.

The accident occurred at about 5:25 p.m. on State Road 10 about 3.5 miles south of Price, the UHP reported.

The girl was taken by medical helicopter to Primary Children's Medical Center, where she remained in critical condition Wednesday, said Cpl. Todd Johnson.

There was no suspicion of impairment or distraction on the part of the driver, a 47-year-old woman, the UHP reported.

The girl was not crossing at a crosswalk, and no citations have been issued, Johnson said.
