A Mormon missionary from Cache County was badly injured when he was struck by a bus last week in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Britten Steven Schenk, 20, of Hyde Park, was waiting on a sidewalk to cross the street Friday when the bus struck him, according to a statement Tuesday by the LDS Church.

His parents have flown to Brazil to meet with doctors, who performed emergency neurosurgery to relieve swelling in Schenk's brain.

"Our prayers are with him, his family and friends," the statement reads.
