Prosecutors filed child abuse charges Wednesday against a West Valley City couple accused of leaving their 3-month-old son locked in a hot car.
Someone saw the baby at 2575 S. 5600 West and called police on July 23, according to charging documents filed in 3rd District Court.

The father and mother, ages 29 and 23, had returned by the time officers arrived, but the infant had already been in the car for 30 minutes, according to the charges. He was drenched in sweat and showing signs of dehydration.
"Temperatures can rise extremely quickly inside a vehicle," said West Valley City police Sgt. Mike Powell. "It’s a significant danger or risk to a small child,"
Powell also warned of the danger of leaving children alone in cars in cold temperatures, including when warming up a car.
The child’s mother and father were each charged Wednesday with one count of child abuse and reckless endangerment, both a class A misdemeanors.
They were arrested at the time, but released before the filing of formal charges. A bond hearing is set for March 28, according to court records.
