A longtime Weber State University employee was placed on unpaid administrative leave Wednesday, a day after she was arrested for allegedly embezzling money from her employer.
Weber County jail records show Vickie Ann Andersen, 55, remained in custody following her arrest Tuesday by Weber State University police on two counts of suspicion of misuse of public money, both third-degree felonies.
Andersen had not yet been charged as of Wednesday morning.
University spokesman John Kowalewski said school officials started investigating Andersen's activities after an internal audit found evidence of impropriety.
Police launched an investigation Monday and allegedly linked Andersen to several hundred dollars that was allegedly missing from the Student Union Building office where she worked as an administrative assistant. Kowalewski said the missing funds were public money collected on behalf of the university.
He said investigation continues, and Andersen, who has worked for the university for about 20 years, has been placed on unpaid leave pending the outcome of the matter.
