A former University of Utah professor accused of viewing child pornography on a flight to Boston has been appointed a new attorney.

Grant Douglas Smith, 47, was not present Tuesday at a hearing in the Massachusetts courthouse. According to the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office, Smith's case was reassigned to defense attorney James Budreau. Another court date was set for April 13.

Smith was arrested in late November after a passenger sitting in first class of a Delta Air Lines flight to Boston allegedly saw the man viewing child pornography on a laptop.

Smith, a professor of molecular engineering, resigned from his position following the arrest.
