St. George police say an Iowa man pulled over to take a nap at the Pilot Truck Stop in Bloomington, and that was his second mistake.

The first? That would be allegedly hauling 8 pounds of cocaine and 12 pounds of marijuana inside his SUV.

St. George police Capt. Kyle Whitehead said an officer noticed the man asleep inside the vehicle late Thursday night and went to check on him. The officer became suspicious after speaking with the 24-year-old man from Des Moines, Iowa.

"The man gave conflicting info about where he was headed," Whitehead said Saturday, adding that the driver gave police permission to search his vehicle.

Police called a drug dog, "Marco," to the scene and he alerted, indicating the presence of narcotics inside the vehicle. A search found the drugs hidden inside a compartment in the SUV, Whitehead said.

Jesus J. Udave was arrested and remained in the Washington County jail on Saturday. He was being held on $17,260 bail on suspicion of second-degree felony possession of cocaine with intent to distribute; third-degree felony possession of marijuana with intent to distribute; class B misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia; and a class A misdemeanor count related to hiding contraband in a compartment.
