Marco Rubio was a Mormon

UPDATED: One of the hottest Republican prospects has little known ties to the LDS Church. Florida Sen. Marco Rubio and some of his family members attended Mormon services in Las Vegas when he was a young child, according to a Miami Herald blog item, which indicated that Rubio's LDS ties would be part of his autobiography due out later this year.

Rubio attended the Mormon Church from the age of 8, when he was baptized, until the age of 11, when his family returned to the Catholic faith. While he still considers himself Catholic, he and his family also occassionally attend a Christian fellowship meeting in Florida.

Many Republican insiders have Rubio at the top of their lists as a vice presidential candidate in 2012 and a presidential candidate in 2016. BuzzFeed, a new political website, says Rubio's Mormon ties could be an issue if Mitt Romney, a Mormon, gets the nomination.
