A West Valley City family lost everything they own when a fire consumed their mobile home just after midnight on Monday.
The fire appears to have started in the furnace room, and quickly engulfed the manufactured home in the Westcrest Mobile Home Park at 3235 S. Eastcrest Road (4230 West).

Firefighters arrived within minutes, but the home was already fully engulfed, with flames shooting out of three sides of the home and from beneath it, said West Valley City Fire Marshal Bob Fitzgerald. All eight occupants, five children and three adults, were able to escape the fire without injury. Firefighters focused on keeping the flames from spreading to other homes, and they were able to put out the blaze in about 15 minutes.
The damage is estimated at about $60,000.
However, the family has no homeowners insurance and all of their possessions were destroyed.
"They’re pretty devastated as far as that goes," Fitzgerald said.
The American Red Cross was helping the family find shelter"and trying to get them back on their feet," Fitzgerald said.
He said the family had indicated there were problems with the furnace recently.
"This is a good time to remind people that if you have any questions about your furnace, have it checked out to make sure it is working properly," Fitzgerald said.
