A Uintah County man accused of using counterfeit bills to make purchases at Target stores along the Wasatch Front, only to return the items for cash, has taken a plea deal.

Raymond Nathaniel Valdez, 39, pleaded guilty Monday in 3rd District Court to an unrelated burglary count. As part of his plea deal, prosecutors agreed to dismiss seven other felony charges against him.

Police have said Valdez, of LaPoint, and Arlene Annette Rivera, 36, put tens of thousands of dollars of fake bills into circulation in Utah, Idaho, Montana and Wyoming.

Valdez was sentenced Monday to one to 15 years in prison on the second-degree felony burglary charge.

A warrant has been issued for Rivera’s arrest.
