Unified Police on Wednesday night were warning Herriman residents to be on alert after a man allegedly tried to abduct a teenage girl walking home from school.

Police said the 13-year-old was walking northbound about 3 p.m. near 5600 West and 13700 South when she encountered a man walking on a trail in the area. Police said the man approached the girl, grabbed her by the arm, pulled her and told her she had to go with him.

The girl kicked the man in the leg and ran southbound on 5600 West as the man gave chase. She told police the man chased her for about three blocks until some cars came into view. Seeing the cars, the man fled through a park and escaped.

Police said the girl ran to a friend’s home to call for help. She was uninjured.

Officers said they are looking for a white male about 30 years old who is about 5-feet-10-inches tall with a medium to muscular build. Police said he had long dark hair that came over his eyes and his face drooped on the left side. He was dressed in a dark hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans and white tennis shoes with a blue emblem. He smelled of cigarettes and alcohol.
