Two Salt Lake County schools were temporarily placed in lock-down Wednesday afternoon after a 911 call from someone who made threats.

Unified Police spokesman Justin Hoyal said that about 1:40 p.m., a male caller said someone was going to "shoot up" Riverton or Herriman high school.

Both Jordan District schools were placed in lock-down while police investigated. The call was traced to a pay phone at a gas station on 1300 West and 12600 South, police said.

Officers searched the schools’ grounds for anyone suspicious. But an hour and half later, the incident was cleared, Hoyal said.

"There was no one suspicious found and no one has come forward saying they were the caller," Hoyal said. "We did it that way [with lock-downs] to make sure everyone was safe."

Students were dismissed from school with officers on site, first at Riverton High, 12476 S. Silverwolf Way, then at Herriman High, 11917 South Mustang Trail Way (6000 West).
