Police seek man who left package with guns, ammo at coffee shop
First Published Feb 15 2012 08:00 am • Last Updated Feb 15 2012 04:52 pm

A "suspicious package" Salt Lake City police detonated Tuesday night did not contain a bomb, but it did contain a number of guns and ammunition.

Police said the package, actually a wheeled piece of luggage, was left by a man dressed in camouflage clothing who entered the Alchemy Coffee Shop at 390 E. 1700 South about 10 p.m. Tuesday.

It was "open mic night" at the shop, and that man reportedly talked with other customers about his military service. He then left behind the suitcase when he exited the shop. When employees followed him trying to return the case, the man kept walking. That’s when employees called 911.

Police officers and then bomb experts arrived and blew up the case as a precaution. No injuries or property damage was reported.

The suspect remained at large Wednesday.
