A winter storm watch is in effect for the southwestern part of Utah Monday into Tuesday, with snow totals potentially hitting two feet in the mountains.
The southern mountains and the cities of Loa, Panguitch and Bryce Canyon likely will see the biggest effects during the watch, in effect from 10 a.m. Monday to 10 p.m. Tuesday. The mountains in the northern part of the state likely will see snow totals reaching about a foot, said Mike Seaman, forecaster for the National Weather Service.

The valleys along the Wasatch Front will see a mix of rain and snow, but there shouldn’t be accumulation on the valley floors. However, slick roads led to a car crash involving about a dozen cars on Monday morning on Interstate 215 at Union Park Avenue. Injuries were minor, but traffic was backed up for hours during the early commute.
State Road 191 was closed Monday morning in Wyoming from the Utah border to Rock Springs.
Temperatures should remain mild, with highs in the low- to mid-40s, Seaman said.
In the mountains near Salt Lake City, Provo and the Uintahs, avalanche danger remained considerable. Ranges in Ogden and Logan were at moderate risk. For more information about backcountry conditions, visit www.utahavalanchecenter.org.
