Crackling fire and smoke awoke an Ogden family of four Friday morning.
The family fled their home at 1028 Capitol St. and called the fire department just after 7 a.m., according to a news release from Ogden Fire Deputy Chief Chad Tucker.

Upon arrival, firefighters found smoke and fire coming from some of the walls and the attic before extinguishing the blaze.
The fire caused an estimated $40,000 in damage and left the home uninhabitable. The home had been converted into a duplex, but one unit was vacant.
An adjacent home sustained about $1,000 in damage to its siding, which melted due to the heat of the fire, Tucker said.
One family member was transported to a local hospital for smoke inhalation. No other injuries were reported.
The two adults and two children are staying with relatives in the area and are also receiving help from American Red Cross Utah Region volunteers with food and clothing.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
