UFA spokesman Cliff Burningham said two people in the house were able to safely escape when they noticed the fire at the rambler at 4961 W. 5320 South about 9 a.m.
A third person was trapped in the basement, but with the help of firefighters was rescued through a window about 15 minutes later. Burningham said the man was treated at the scene for cuts from the broken glass in the window and smoke inhalation, but he did not suffer any burns and was taken to an area hospital in stable condition.
Structural damage was estimated at $100,000, including the main floor, attic space and roof, Burningham said.
A cat and a dog living in the home were missing.
The three people displaced from the home will be staying with family in the area, Burningham said.
