West Jordan police have made an arrest in the shooting of a man found lying semiconscious in a pool of blood in the middle of a Kearns street.

Unified Police Department Lt. Justin Hoyal said Friday that Billy Lee Rohwedder, 33, was arrested late Thursday night and booked into Salt Lake County jail on suspicion of attempted homicide/murder and obstruction of justice, both second-degree felonies.

Leads generated by interviews with the victim's family and acquaintances and tips received from the public led to Rohwedder's arrest without incident about 9:30 p.m. at the Studio 6 Hotel in Murray.

"Detectives learned that the victim was alone with Billy Rohwedder in a car when the victim was shot. The victim was then dumped at 4520 W. 4865 South [sometime before 4 a.m. Thursday]. Detectives did recover a passenger car later [Thursday morning] in the area where the victim was dumped that had evidence of a shooting taking place inside the car," Hoyal said.

"This case is still active. Detectives are trying to determine a motive for the shooting and if any other were individuals were involved," he added.

Hoyal, citing concerns for the victim's safety and the ongoing investigation, would not identify the victim, specify where on his body he was shot or provide other details. However, he did say that doctors on Friday said the man's vital signs had been stabilized, though he remained in critical condition.
