Considering the calendar still declares this is winter, Utah’s forecast heading toward the weekend is downright balmy.
Under mostly cloudy skies, northern Utahns looked for high temperatures in the mid-40s to around 50 degrees Friday. In southern Utah, the forecast was for partly cloudy skies giving way to sunshine and highs in the 60s.

The Utah Division of Environmental Quality, meanwhile, stamped a uniform "green" on its map of air quality monitoring sites statewide.
The Utah Avalanche Center gave "orange," or considerable risk ratings for potentially dangerous snow slides in the mountains near Ogden, Salt Lake City, Provo, the western Uintas and Moab, while Logan earned a "yellow," or moderate avalanche risk grade.
Salt Lake City expected a high temperature Friday of 49 degrees, following Thursday’s forecast for 45; Ogden was pegged at 47 and 42; Provo 50 and 47; Logan 41 and 39; Wendover 48 and 44; Duchesne 43 and 40; Cedar City 55 and 51; St. George 64 and 63; and Moab 51 and 47 degrees.
