The high roundhouse kick may have been Chuck Norris-approved, but it didn’t take the 18-year-old long to learn his actions definitely did not impress West Valley City police.
Instead, the West Valley City teen’s actions earned him felony charges and a trip to the Salt Lake County jail, according to charging documents filed Wednesday in 3rd District Court.

Police said the incident started New Year’s Day when a neighbor heard a commotion outside his home and asked several people who were allegedly yelling and who appeared to be intoxicated to quiet down. He then called police when the people started fighting with each other, charging documents show.
Police say the 18-year-old was displeased by the neighbor’s decision to call police, knocked on the man’s apartment door and shouted, "Who called the cops?"
When the neighbor told the teen that he had, police allege the teen pushed open the door, entered the apartment, pushed the man’s wife aside and punched him in the face. The punch knocked the man off his feet and, when he tried to get back up, the teen allegedly kicked him the chest and left, charging documents state.
As the man called police again, officers say the teen returned and tried to kick in the man’s door, documents show.
West Valley City police said they caught up with the teen at another apartment complex. When they tried to detain him, police said the teen started to fight with them. Eventually they were able to subdue and handcuff him, but apparently didn’t expect the teen’s next move.
Police said the teen, who was sitting on the ground, suddenly jumped to his feet and "delivered a powerful roundhouse kick" toward one of the officers, striking him in the upper left shoulder, charging documents show.
As another officer attempted to hold the teen on the ground to secure his legs, police allege the teen tried to bite an officer on the leg, getting a mouthful of his pant leg, documents show.
Police said the teen was allegedly intoxicated at the time.
He’s been charged with the three felonies, including burglary and assault by a prisoner, and several misdemeanors, including assault, underage drinking and criminal mischief.
