Salt Lake couple crash after being chased by gun-wielding man
First Published Feb 08 2012 11:21 am • Last Updated Feb 08 2012 12:18 pm

Police say a close call for a Salt Lake City couple with a gun-wielding man may have been a case of mistaken identity.

A man and woman told police they were leaving the Bonneville Gardens Trailer Park in their car Tuesday when they saw two men, one of them holding a handgun, approaching them. When the couple tried to drive away, the men followed in a car.

A that chase ensued ended when the couple’s car crashed into a power pole at 652 S. Redwood Road about 1:30 p.m. The men were not at the scene when police arrived. Both the man and woman escaped the accident without injury, police Detective Josh Ashdown said.

Police believe the men may have misidentified the couple — the woman told officers that her boyfriend, who was not the male driving, had a history as a white supremacist.

The men who chased them were described as a Polynesian man with puffy dark hair and wearing a blue bandana, and a white or Latino male. They were last seen in a black and tan car.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to call police at 801-799-3000.
