A man was seriously injured when his paraglider collapsed during a flight Sunday on Mount Olympus.

The 43-year-old and another man had hiked about a half-mile up from Wasatch Boulevard before the victim jumped off a rock outcropping about 2,000 feet above the trailhead, said Unified Police Department Lt. Jake Petersen.

The man had glided about 50 feet away from the launch site when "the chute completely collapsed on him," Petersen said.

He fell about 20 feet to some rocks below, breaking his leg and shoulder and injuring his head, Petersen said. Rescuers flew the man to Intermountain Medical Center; he was expected to survive.
