A 4-year-old was critically injured Saturday afternoon in Highland when she was accidentally backed over by her neighbor.

Lone Peak police Sgt. Steve Swenson said the girl was walking down the sidewalk about 4:15 p.m. near Wildflower Lane and North Timberline Drive when her neighbor said he didn’t see her and backed his SUV down his inclined driveway. Swenson said the SUV backed over the girl’s torso.

She was flown by medical helicopter to Primary Children’s Medical Center in Salt Lake City where she was listed in critical condition Saturday night, he said.

Swenson said the girl had just left another neighbor’s home one door down and was walking home alone when the accident occurred. He said the man’s wife and children were inside the SUV and witnessed the accident.

Swenson said the incident remained under investigation Saturday night; he did not know if the driver would be cited.
