Prosecutors alleged Wednesday a 47-year-old East Carbon man was responsible for causing the deaths of two women during a car crash last September.
Carbon County prosecutors charged Darin Scott Hawkinson with two counts of automobile homicide, both second-degree felonies, and one count of speeding, a class C misdemeanor, according to charging documents filed Wednesday in 7th District Court.

Authorities allege Hawkinson was driving under the influence about 1 p.m. Sept. 23 on U.S. Highway 6 about 10 miles southeast of Price when he swerved into oncoming traffic, hitting an eastbound car and pushing it into the path of tractor trailer, according to charging documents and reports at the time. Authorities also allege Hawkinson was speeding at the time. They said he was going 81 mph in a 65 mph zone, charging documents show.
The car, which ended up in the path of the truck, was carrying four people. Two women — Sharlene Atkinson, 64, and Lynnette Hulse, 63, both of Sandy — were sitting in the back of the car and were killed. Troopers said at the time that Hawkinson was also critically injured.
