A person of interest in the December deaths of a Mount Pleasant couple was recently charged in Salt Lake County for identity-theft crimes that prosecutors say he committed in September — but no charges have yet been filed in the double homicide.
Logan Welles McFarland, 24, has been charged in Salt Lake City’s 3rd District Court with identity fraud, a third-degree felony; unlawful acquisition, possession or transfer of a financial transaction card, a third-degree felony; and unlawful use of a financial transaction card, a class A misdemeanor.

On Sept. 22, a Utah Highway Patrol officer stopped a car for littering near 4500 South and Redwood Road. McFarland, a passenger, had a warrant for his arrest, court documents state. The trooper found a Discover credit card and paperwork for another man in McFarland’s pocket after he took him into custody.
Later investigation showed that in early September, McFarland was seen either on video surveillance, or in person, making more than $1,300 in withdrawals from ATMs at Zions Bank, Mountain America Credit Union and US Bank with the same man’s debit card, according to court records.
The man whose identity was stolen told police he never applied for a Discover credit card, which racked up more than $500 in charges. The man also told police he never gave anyone permission to use his personal information or his debit card, documents state.
McFarland is being held in the Elko County, Nev., jail after police there captured him and Angela Marie Hill, 25, also known as Angela Atwood, following a two-state crime spree that allegedly included burglaries, car thefts and a high-speed chase during the New Year’s weekend.
Officials began searching for McFarland and Hill after Leroy and Dorotha Fullwood, ages 70 and 69, were found dead Dec. 31 in their Mount Pleasant home.
Prosecutors in Nevada intend to try Hill and McFarland there before returning them to Utah, where they have been charged with burglary.
