Feb. 14 » While controversy continues to swirl around the figure skating pairs competition, there is no disputing the men’s event, where Russia’s Alexei Yagudin performs almost flawlessly in the free skate to claim gold. Timothy Goebel earns bronze to become the first American man to medal since 1992. Speedskater Catriona Le May Doan finally gets Canada on the board with a gold in the 500 meters, and the U.S. women’s hockey team blasts China 12-0. Spain’s Johann Muehlegg wins his second gold of the Games in the 20-kilometer cross country race, though he is later expelled for using illegal performance-enhancing drugs.
