Feb. 12 » While figure skaters Jamie Sale and David Pelletier of Canada speak to the media and the International Skating Union launches an investigation into the wildly controversial results in the pairs competition, American speedskaters Casey FitzRandolph and Kip Carpenter win gold and bronze in the men’s 500 meters, and France’s Carole Montillet wins the women’s downhill. Russia’s Evgeni Plushenko falls apart in the men’s figure skating short program to open the door for countryman Alexei Yagudin, and the U.S. women’s hockey team opens its run for gold with a 10-0 whitewash of Germany.
