Olympic pin trading will return as part of the 10th anniversary celebration of the 2002 Winter Games.

A limited-edition collector’s pin will go on sale at Kimball Art Center at 5 p.m. Wednesday, when Park City kicks off its Main Street celebration of the 2002 Games. "The first 30 people to post a photo or story on the memory wall at the Kimball Art Center will receive an anniversary pin for free," said Jennifer Clarke, spokeswoman for the Utah Olympic Legacy Foundation, which operates Utah Olympic Park outside of Park City and the Utah Olympic Oval in Kearns.

Provo’s party

Provo will mark the 10th anniversary of the 2002 Winter Games with a ceremony and discount skating at the city’s lone Olympic venue.

Patrons wearing Olympic-themed clothing or memorabilia will get into the Peaks Ice Arena for half price Feb. 10 from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Provo Mayor John Curtis and Fraser Bullock, the Games’ former chief operating officer, will make a presentation at 8 p.m. An Olympic torch will be lit on center ice during the public skating.

The Peaks hosted women’s and men’s hockey during the 2002 Games.

Park City’s Main Street celebration will feature pin-trading booths, which also will be set up for festivities Feb. 17 at the Kearns oval and Feb. 18 at The Gateway in downtown Salt Lake City. The Feb. 18 "Olympic Sport Festival" is the largest Olympic anniversary celebration, culminating with "A Tribute to Salt Lake 2002 with Stars on Ice" program at 7 p.m. at EnergySolutions Arena.

"For pin-trading enthusiasts, no memory shines brighter than that of pin trading during the 17 perfect days of the 2002 Games," Clarke said. "Crowds of both children and adults alike swarmed pin-trading booths swapping the treasured little collectibles."

Olympic anniversary T-shirts, hats and water bottles also will be for sale at the Park City celebration. Proceeds from the sale of anniversary merchandise will go to youth sport programs, she said.
