A 2-year-old child has died Monday his father backed over him in the driveway of their Cache County home.

The child’s mother had just returned home to 6473 W. Deep Canyon Road (400 South) in Mendon with the toddler, who went to play outside, said Cache County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Matt Bilodeau.

The child’s father was backing out of the garage when he felt like he had run over something. He stopped and discovered it was his son.

The child suffered obvious head trauma and was not breathing when medical crews arrived. They began CPR and rushed him to the hospital where he would have been flown to another medical center. However, the child died before that could happen.

The father is being interviewed and will have his blood drawn per state law, Bilodeau said.

The child’s name has not been released at this time.
