Teen struck by police car

A teen was hit Friday night by a Unified Police Department car near 3000 East and 4500 South.

Police said that shortly after 9 p.m. the 13-year-old girl was walking with some friends on the north side off 4500 South when she crossed the street to meet her dad, who was parked on the south side of the road. The teen apparently didn’t see the UPD vehicle that was eastbound on 4500 South, Salt Lake City police Lt. Brian Purvis said.

The officer was not able to stop and hit the teen, Purvis said. She was taken to a hospital with injuries but was conscious and alert, police said.

Unified Police spokesman Justin Hoyal said Salt Lake City police would be handling the investigation. No other information has been made available.
