Clearfield police say they finally have the suspect in a November 2011 convenience store robbery in custody — and the 18-year-old man says he did it all for love of the Xbox game system.

The Standard-Examiner newspaper reports the man was arrested at his home in Layton on Jan. 21 after police received a tip to his identity. He was booked into Davis County jail on suspicion of second-degree felony robbery.

Assistant Clearfield Police Chief Mike Stenquist said Wednesday that authorities had kept the arrest close to their vests because they are still looking for the getaway driver in the holdup.

On Nov. 19, the suspect approached a clerk at the Tesoro gas station at 249 N. Main Street, claimed he had a gun and demanded money.

When arrested, the suspect allegedly told police he committed the robbery to raise money to purchase an Xbox.

Police declined to release other details, citing the ongoing investigation, but did say Wednesday they continued to look for the driver of a getaway vehicle described as a white, 1990s Geo Prism or Chevy Cavalier.

The Standard-Examiner reported that the car was parked in a nearby parking lot next to Antelope Elementary while the suspect committed the holdup.

Anyone with information on the driver’s identity is asked to call Clearfield police at 801-525-2806.
