Salt Lake City police were looking Tuesday for an intruder scared off by an alert woman who awoke to find the stranger at her bedside, removing his underwear.

The incident took place just before 7 a.m. Monday at an apartment unit located near 2600 East Stringham Avenue (2287 South).

Police say the 19-year-old woman awoke to see the man standing next to her bed, peeling off his shorts. Seeing her awake, the male suspect allegedly threatened to stab the woman if she cried out.

When she instead picked up her cell phone and began punching in 911, the suspect — described as a 5-foot-10 white man in his 30s, with an average build and a clean-shaven, "square" face — quickly dressed and fled out the apartment’s patio door.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to call police at 801-799-3000.
