A Price man had his right arm severed by a moving train Thursday as he walked along the tracks, police say.

Police Chief Aleck Shilaos said the 48-year-old man was walking near 350 W. Main St. in Price around 9:30 p.m. when a 90-car Union Pacific cargo train passed by.

"He was walking along the tracks and got too close to the train," Shilaos said.

The man had "extensive injuries" to his right side, police said. He was taken to a local hospital and later flown to University Hospital.

The man showed no immediate signs of drug or alcohol use, Shilaos said, but lab reports were pending and the investigation is ongoing.
