Wellington police are investigating a rape reported Friday in the small Carbon County town.

Police Chief Lee Barry said Saturday night that the attacker broke into a home about 3:30 a.m. Friday and sexually assaulted a woman. The victim said she did not know who raped her, he said.

Barry said investigators are interviewing people about the incident and have collected a lot of evidence, which has been sent to a crime lab for analysis.

He said some residents in the Carbon County town have expressed concern about whether others might be targeted, but said the incident appears to be isolated.

There have been no other reports of rapes in Carbon or Emery counties for more than two months, he said. Barry said he’s not worried about a serial rapist.

"It is an isolated incident," he said. "There have been no other occurrences. People just need to realize they don’t need to be afraid." Barry recommended people simply take normal security precautions such as locking their doors.
