Provo police searching for suspect in robbery attempt

Provo police are searching for a man who threatened a woman with a knife and used a chemical spray on her in botched robbery at a smoke shop Friday night.

Police stated in a news release the woman was closing up the Stogies Smoke Shop at 410 N. Freedom Blvd. at about 8:45 p.m. when she saw a frequent male customer to the store loitering nearby.

The man began to follow the woman as she went to her car. When she got to her car the man pulled out a 3-inch knife and threatened to stab and spray her if she did got give him her purse.

The woman refused, told the man she knew who he was and started to kick him.

As the man struggled with the woman he sprayed her in the face and ran away. Witnesses saw him get on a dark-colored mountain bike a block away and ride away.

The suspect is described as a white male between 20 to 26 years old, about 5-foot-10 with brown hair and wearing a black leather jacket.
