A Uintah County woman is facing charges in the death of her infant daughter last summer.

Benita Jean Shostrom, 34, was charged earlier this month in 8th District Court with one count of second-degree felony manslaughter.

In June, police were called to Shostrom's home and found the 7-month-old girl dead in a bassinet, said Uintah County Chief Deputy John Laursen. Shostrom told police the child had prior medical issues, but a medical examiner later determined that Cali Rae Douglas did not die of natural causes.

A summons has been issued for Shostrom to appear in court next month.

Attempts to reach the woman this week were unsuccessful.
