An elderly man was killed and a young woman was injured in a two-vehicle crash early Wednesday in West Jordan.

Earl Groneman, 88, of Murray, was killed, said West Jordan police Sgt. Drew Sanders.

The 19-year-old female driver of the second car was taken to the hospital to be checked out, but was believed to be in good condition.

Sanders said the elderly man was westbound on 9000 South at 5:49 a.m. making a left turn onto southbound 1300 West when the second vehicle, eastbound, struck him.

The intersection remained closed into late Wednesday morning while wreckage was cleared.

No citations were immediately issued, but the accident remained under investigation, Sanders said.
