Three juveniles were arrested in connection with a stabbing of a 14-year-old Tuesday afternoon near a church in Sugar House, police said.
Salt Lake City Lt. Isaac Atencio said the teen and a friend were near 2460 South and 800 East about 3:30 p.m. when they were confronted by a group of juveniles. He said someone stabbed the teen at least once in the upper chest.
Atencio said the teen and his friend made it to the 14-year-old’s house, which was about two or three blocks away, where they called police for help. They gave police a description of the car the alleged attackers fled in.
An off-duty police officer was nearby and spotted the car and stopped it near 2500 South and 700 East. Police took the four juveniles inside into custody, Atencio said.
Tuesday night, Atencio said three of the juveniles ranging in ages 14 to 17 years old were arrested and booked on suspicion of aggravated assault; one of the teens also was arrested on suspicion of obstruction of justice. The fourth teen was interviewed and released.
Atencio said police didn’t have a motive for the attack, but said there was an ongoing dispute between the victim and the other juveniles. Police also located a knife on one of the teens.
The teen, who was transported to the hospital in serious to critical condition, was reported to be stable but in serious condition Tuesday night.
