Andrei Kirilenko, wife sued for unpaid rent at Gateway mall
A former Utah Jazz player and his wife are being sued for nearly $167,000 by a downtown Salt Lake City mall for allegedly violating a lease.
Inland Western Salt Lake City Gateway, LLC, which owns and operates The Gateway mall, sued Bezurk LLC, ex-Jazz player Andrei Kirilenko and his wife, Marina Lopatova, also known as Masha Kirilenko, claiming the pair had opened a store there but failed to pay, according to the civil suit filed Friday in 3rd District Court.
According to the lawsuit, Andrei and Masha Kirilenko were the owners of Bezurk, which did business as Fleur de Lis. The lawsuit alleges that Bezurk first signed a five-year lease in 2007, but in 2009 agreed to a second three-year lease to acquire additional space. Both leases were to end in 2012.
The company claims that Andrei Kirilenko personally guaranteed payment of all Bezurk obligations. The Gateway claims Bezurk stopped paying the second lease in June 2010 and stopped paying its first lease in October of this year, the suit shows.
At the end of October, The Gateway claims the Kirilenkos and Bezurk surrendered possession of the property they were leasing, but the company claims the Kirilenkos have refused to pay what they allegedly owed.
An attempt to reach a Kirilenko representative for comment wasn't immediately successful Saturday. Kirilenko has been playing basketball in his home country of Russia during the NBA lockout.
