A woman out for a walk with her dog was struck and killed Thursday evening in Millcreek after she somehow ended up in a lane of traffic.
Unified Police Lt. John Barker said the 86-year-old woman, whose name wasn't released, was walking about 5:30 p.m. near 3600 South and 1300 East when she entered the southbound lanes of 1300 East and was struck by at least two vehicles. The woman and her dog both died instantly.
Barker said Unified Police on Thursday night were trying to piece together how the woman, who is believed to have lived in the area, ended up in the roadway in the path of rush hour traffic and what she might have been doing there. He said he didn't know whether the woman was trying to cross the street at the time, but said there is no crosswalk in the area of the crash.
He said the drivers involved in the accident all stopped. He said drugs, alcohol and speed did not appear to be factors in the accident.
