Vernal man dies in fiery rollover crash in Colorado

First Published Nov 24 2011 06:54 pm • Last Updated Nov 24 2011 11:08 pm

A 62-year-old Vernal man died Thursday morning after, troopers say, the tractor trailer he was driving rolled and burst into flames in Moffat County, Colo.

Colorado State Patrol troopers said Thursday night that the man, whose name was not immediately released, was northbound about 8:50 a.m. on Moffat County Road 51 when his vehicle failed to negotiate a curve, causing the semi to roll and catch fire.

The semi was pulling a cargo tanker trailer filled with crude oil, troopers said.

The man died at the scene, but troopers said they were withholding the man’s name until they could notify his family.

Troopers said drugs and alcohol were not suspected in the crash, but they were investigating whether the vehicle might have been going too fast.

Moffat County is the northwestern-most county in Colorado.
