A Salt Lake City woman and her young daughter remained in serious condition Friday, the day after they were struck by a car while crossing 2100 East near 2000 South.

Police said the accident occurred at 6:43 p.m. as the mother, 46, and the girl, 5, were in a crosswalk. They were hit by a southbound car driven by a 40-year-old man, who said he did not see the two until it was too late for him to stop.

The mother and child sustained head injuries, but both had been stabilized as of Friday, said Salt Lake City police Detective Dennis McGowan.

The driver was not cited, but the incident remains under investigation.
