Funeral services will be held Monday — in Utah and Idaho — for two LDS missionaries killed in Texas earlier this week.
Trevor Reinhold Strong, 21, of Taylorsville, and Derek Jason Walker, 20, of Fairfield, Idaho, were riding bicycles Tuesday evening when they were hit head-on by a driver who was passing another vehicle on a small road in Donna, Texas.
A third missionary — Elder Zachary Todd Harris — survived the collision.
Gordon Strong, the father of Trevor Strong, said in a prepared statement Friday: "At this time of sorrow, we wish to sincerely thank all those who have expressed love and concern for our family. We are proud of the great example Trevor was in our lives. We know that he continues to serve the Lord on the other side."
Strong offered condolences to the families of Walker and Harris and thanked everyone who has expressed support and sympathy to the family.
"We have felt the comfort of the Holy Ghost greatly since this tragic incident," Strong said. "We choose to dwell on the positive memories of Trevor and the dedicated service he performed."
Funeral arrangements are as follows:
• Strong's funeral will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the Kearns LDS Stake Center, 4260 West Sams Blvd. (5215 South). There will be a viewing Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Stake Center.
• Walker's funeral will be held Monday at 1 p.m. at the Camas County High School, 610 Soldier Road, Fairfield, Idaho. Viewings are set for Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Demaray Funeral Home, 164 East Main Street, Wendell, Idaho; and Monday from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Fairfield LDS Church, 400 West Alturus Ave., Fairfield, Idaho.
