Hogle Zoo has received an "Environmental Program of the Year" award for its assistance in helping Boy Scouts earn a half-dozen merit badges in various environmental pursuits. The Utah Society of Environmental Education bestowed the award on the zoo.
Zoo officials also posthumously honored Janet Ryan-Finlayson, who spent more than 30 years as a volunteer docent, trainer and raptor handler, as its "Environmental Volunteer of the Year." She died in September.
